A visit to ROC Gilde Opleidingen venray
We visit ROC Gilde Opleidingen venray, where we meet Mr. Mr. Show us how they teach students in competence base system (The trainer's role in a competency-based system is to determine what the trainee is capable of learning at any given time and then present the training and development activities in a clear and logical manner so the trainee is capable of performing all required job tasks).so there are classrom where students can sit and do group works which they have been given by a teacher/trainer and there some classroom where by student is supposed to do works him/her self under supervision of a trainer/teacher.

We spend all the day at SAM office discussing about ACTIVE DIRECTORY which is major goal is user authentification and computer authentification.Here we talk again about confidentiality of data so we were talking the ways of loging in to the system what kind of log in you can make according to the user.so we conclude that if the sytem contain important information e.g examination we have to increase the log in security.

In this day we were at Sam office and Roel teach us how to configure a switch and how to design network so computers can be able to share resources.Then he gave us assigment of configuring switches and make our three laptop be able to communicate. we did this exercise and at the end our computer were able to share resorces.this to me was a very good practise because is the first time for me to configure a switch.

Monday 5/10/2010
At 8.00 we went to sam office and we have a discusion with roel on road map of ICT at TPSC .Here we discuss about maintanace He told us not to be only active but we have are needed to be proactive so we will be able to solve the problems before they arrise.To us this is good because before most of the time we used to solve the broblem when they arrise also before when we are bulding the system we did not look how that system will be in may be after one year.so now we know when we are bulding a system we will have to look how the system will be in future. Also we discuss about security of infomation which is the most important thing in any organisation so he told us in a system we have to make level of trust to the user to access information.Also we discuss the ways of improving availability of information here we look at TPSC and we chek hosting machine(servers),Power Supply,Terminal Server,Data Storage,Active Directory.
HOSTING MACHINE (SERVERS)
Here we discuss on posibility of introducing SAN technology so to connect our server toward th SAN.
POWER SUPPLY
Here we discuss what will be a liliable power suplly because the power in Tanzania is not liliable to me i was thinking if is possible to buy UPS also to make sure the Generator in Dar es salaa campus starts automatic when there is power failure.
TERMINAL SERVER
Here we disuss the way of maintaining the connection to classroom so conclude that we have to create another Terminal Server so if The current terminal server is not working properpally we will be able to connect to another terminal server.

FINALISING OUR REPORT
In this day at 8.00 am we have discusion with Niek at Martins Hotel on what we have learn on all week and also finalising our report
.At 10.am we start a journey to OOIJEN where Roel leave the journey was about three ours.we reach OOIJEN at 1.00 and rohel took us to the park were he was prepare our accomodation.This place is very nice so quite and all of us like this place.The next day was sunday so we spend all day at home

Visiting Data center
We visit data center and see how they are managing they savers and which system they are using, We discover that they have more 1000 savers and they have two saver room with complete system so if one saver room have problems they can use other room, also they have modern cooling system and they have modern technology of preventing fire, good internet bandwidth. My recommendation is that TPSC needed to have two System because if one system crush they can use another system for a while also they have to increase internet bandwidth.

Visit Hanze
We visit Hanze university, where we meet Mr. Mr. Show us how Digital Education is done. and what education materials are used (Slide share, MERLOT ,World Lecture Hall ,Lecture capture, blackboard )
In Blackboard he show us how teacher can post their course and how students can use that course everywhere they are. Also we do some practice on blackboard on how to post course in blackboard. There after he teach us about open education and show us one sight which we can use, click here to see it. After that miss explain to us how they are using multimedia in learning environment also she show us how they creating online test and how students can capture lectures by various technics.To us it is very interesting thing because we discovered that there is a lot of website which offer open education freely, which will very helpful for staff and student at TPSC.Also the way Hanze University using black board help us to get the starting point in moodle which we want to be our e learning environment for TPSC.

Visit University of Groningen Library
We arrive at university library at 09.15 and having a tea at lecture room . Joke Bos the coordinator information literacy give us the introduction of the university of Groningen library we discovered that the library is more than 300 years old so they have a great experience. After the introduction we have a tour to various sections of a library and we discovered that the library have got modern facilities also they have enough computers (more than 600), also the have various study room e.g. there some room if somebody want to concentrate he/she can use it alone also there some room where students can have discussion. Also students can use their own laptops within a library. Another thing which we discover is that the library subscribes to a lot of journals (5000 printed journals and 25,000 online journals) and they have a lot of current books and most common used books.
After library tour we had a meeting with Marjolein Nieboer(Director/Librarian University of Groningen library ) and Klaran Visscher Visscher(Head of General library services and collections) and they give us short explanation on how they manage the huge library like this, also we talk to them the possibility of helping us on getting some journals for cheap price ,and they gave us they contact so will have to communicate with them. So I think if TPSC communicate with University of Groningen library it will be possible for TPSC to get some journals for cheap price

a) Learn about RSS feeds and setup your own Bloglines newsreader account;
Here we learn how we can make the website and news information we visit ever day to be available just in one place and all at the same time without being bombarded with advertising without having to search for new information on the page you’d already seen or read before… and without having to consume a lot of time visiting each site individually by using newsreader and RSS

b) Locate a few useful library related blogs and/or news feeds
Here we learn how we to add newsfeeds

a) Learn about tagging and discover a Del.icio.us (a social bookmaking site);
Here we learn method of categorizing that allows users to associate keywords with online content (webpages, pictures & posts). Unlike library subject cataloging, which follows a strict set of guidelines (i.e.Library of Congress subject headings), tagging is completely unstructured and freeform, allowing users to create connections between data anyway they want by using Del.icio.us . Also we create Del.icio.us account , Del.icio.us is a social bookmarking manager which allows you to bookmark a web page and add tags to categorize your bookmarks

b) Explore Technorati and learn how tags work with blog posts;
c) Read a few perspectives on Web 2.0, Library 2.0 and the future of libraries and blog your thoughts;

a) Learn about wikis and discover some innovative ways that libraries are using them;

Day two in netherland was good nick come at martin hotel.We discussed about implementing Moodle as our e-learning system, we planned to start designing it when we are still in Netherlands and we will start implementation as soon as we land to Tanzania. While in Netherlands we will discuss about major functionality of the system and how to create a culture to TPSC staff to use ICT in providing course materials and examination results to students and some other functionality which could be of handy to facilitators and students.
This e-learning system will not only made life easier to students and academic staff but it will provide an easier means to other people and public at large to get to interact with TPSC, as most of them will applying for courses online, read some journals prepared by TPSC and again being able to send some queries on certain issues that they think TPSC could be provide solution, isn't this going to be cool feature and good start for TPSC to market herself? We all have the answer and the right answers are what makes us come up with such an idea
and give us assigment of creating our own blogs.after finishing we visitgronnigen public library where we see different department of the library and how they are working.We discovered that they are using a modern technology of recording books and tracking books also they have current books and they subscribes in many online journals and books which is very different with tpsc

We arrive at airpot early Sunday morning.the good thing weather is not bad is almost like dar es salaam. then we took a train to Groningen which is about two hours from Amsterdam.In Groningen Niek and Roel took us to the hotel (martin Hotel)we sleep for a moment then at 5 Niek pick us from the hotel to his home where there is a bbq.we stay at Niek place until 10.00pm.then we go back to the hotel.
